TITLE OF POSITION: Clinical Assistant NATURE OF POSITION: This is a safety sensitive position. The Clinical Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary medical team of the health center. The Clinical Assistant screens and refers phone calls, communicates, and interacts with patients, provides clerical and staff support to the unit and is a liaison between the front desk staff and with the nurses in the provision of care. The Clinical Assistant acts as a liaison between all personnel, patients, and between GSP Health and other facilities. Assumes responsibility for telephone and document management. QUALIFICATIONS:  1. High School graduate 2. On-the-job training, previous experience preferred. 3. Personal maturity, cooperation, and ability to communicate clearly. 4. Basic typing and computer skills and prior telephone experience. 5. Ability to communicate clearly. 6. Ability to work on more than one task at a time and flow from one task to another smoothly. 7. Ability to work through frequent interruptions and adaptable to change.   SALARY GRADE AND CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt   RESPONSIBLE TO: Clinical Assistant Lead SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:  1. Obtains routine temperature, pulse, respiration, height, and weight as well as blood pressure readings at first encounter. Screens clients for visual acuity using Snellen method. 2. Performs adequate documentation for the provider. 3. Assists with office procedures. 4. Responsible for assisting Registered Nurse/Staff Nurse with triage of clients and transfer of charts to the appropriate provider. 5. Responsible for performing visit prep for all patients, participating in care team huddles, and checking out patients, and scheduling follow-up visits. 6. Assists providers during clinical visits by giving them 30-second reports in between patients, performing the sheep/shepherd method, and midway knocks.   7. Maintains the provider’s schedule by participating in a simplified schedule and jockeying/scrubbing patient visits.   8. Maintains a current CPR card, and participates in education training offered at GSP Health, including online training courses.   9. Works in harmony with others and exhibits a positive attitude and a commitment to the basic mission of the organization.   10. Exhibits caring qualities consistent with the values of the community health center.   11. Responsible for answering incoming telephone calls at the nurse’s station.   12. Exhibits awareness of cultural factors and shows competence in reducing barriers to the provision of health care services.   13. Assumes responsibility for entering telephone encounters.   14. Responsible for managing incoming and outgoing documents. Attaching documents, assigning appropriately, and faxing.   15. Upholds and abides by patient confidentiality policies and procedures.   16. Assists providers and staff in requesting patient records.   17. Performs other duties incidental to the work described herein or as assigned by the Clinical Assistant Lead and Practice Administrator.   This position is required to work in clinic but could have the potential to work remotely as directed by the supervisor and in alignment with GSP Health Policies.
