REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Information Manager, the Clinical Coder is responsible for accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes to all inpatient episodes using current coding standards. Your work directly contributes to the hospital’s casemix management, funding, and data quality.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assign accurate and timely codes in accordance with ICD-10-AM, ACHI, and Australian Coding Standards.
  • Support data integrity for billing, morbidity collections, statistical analysis, quality programs, and DRG allocation.
  • Participate in internal and external coding audits and documentation quality assurance.
  • Assist with clinical documentation queries and liaise with hospital staff to ensure coding accuracy.
  • Uphold confidentiality and comply with all relevant legislative requirements.
