Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Clinical Coding Auditor, you will play a vital role in maintaining the precision and reliability of our clinical coding processes. By auditing medical records and providing guidance to the coding team, you will help ensure that patient care is accurately captured and represented. You will collaborate closely with clinical staff and management to make sure coding accurately reflects the complexity of patient care.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the integrity of healthcare data, improve clinical documentation practices, and uphold high standards across the hospital.

The following skills and qualifications will help you succeed in this role:

  • Successful completion of a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding Course in ICD-10-AM together with demonstrated advanced competency in ICD-10-AM (current edition) coding / Qualified degree in Health Information Management (HIM)
  • Eligible for HIMAA membership
  • Certification or potentially working towards attaining qualification in Clinical Coding Auditing, (La Trobe University) or similar recognised qualification
  • Minimum five years’ experience in Clinical Coding in a hospital environment
  • Complex clinical coding experience with demonstrated competency in ICD-10-AM coding
  • Experience in auditing of clinical coded data and clinical documention
  • High level attention to detail with the ability to analyse, interpret and problem solve difficult and complex patient episodes of care
  • Advanced knowledge of the current edition of the ICD-10-AM & ACHI Classification, the Australian Coding Standards and the National Coding Advice demonstrating competence in the use of relevant Clinical Coding computing programs such as 3M Codefinder/Grouper
  • Knowledge and understanding of Private Health Fund principles and data collection processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Casemix /AR-DRGs /Admitted Patient Care data collection process and the implications on diagnostic codin
