Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Drop-In Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.

Responsibilities

As a Clinical Counsellor you are responsible for:

  • Individual & Group Counselling – Create treatment plans, deliver short-term, therapeutic counselling using evidence-based practices (e.g., MBCT, DBT, ACT, MBSR, Trauma-Informed Care, etc.), and facilitate group therapy programs.
  • Crisis Intervention & Safety Planning – Conduct risk assessments, provide same-day crisis counselling, create safety plans, and participate in the on-call crisis line rotation to support participants.
  • Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Teams – Partner with psychologists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals to provide comprehensive care tailored to participants’ needs.
  • Program & Resource Coordination – Connect participants to internal Friends of Ruby programs when appropriate and external service providers as needed.
  • Team Engagement & Conflict Resolution – Support overseeing the drop-in space, de-escalate conflicts/situations, and monitor the overall physical and emotional safety of the space.
  • Clinical Documentation & Administration – Complete intake assessments, maintain clinical records and actively participate in team meetings and individual/group clinical supervision.
