POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Counsellor/Psychotherapist, reporting to the Clinical Practice Lead, is responsible for the provision of evidenced based psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment to individuals 16 years of age or older with cognitive, emotional or behavioural disturbances through a therapeutic relationship based primarily on verbal or non-verbal communication, in individual or group session formats. Further to this, duties will include participation in clinical case consultation, multidisciplinary team treatment planning meetings, psychoeducational groups, provision of student placements/supervision, community liaison, and community presentations as required. All services are provided in accordance with the mission and established protocols of the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology; Social Work or Occupational Therapy or equivalent with psychotherapy training including supervised practicums
  • Registration with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and/or College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO). and/or other appropriate regulate health professionals college in the province of Ontario
  • Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience working with individuals 16+ years of age with mild to severe addictions and/or mental health issues, preferred
  • Ability to effectively connect with individuals, colleagues, families, and the community
  • Expertise in the areas of individual and group counselling (experience in marital and family counselling will be considered an asset)
  • Knowledgeable in trauma informed therapies, and working from a client-centered focus
  • Experience working with at least one of the following therapeutic modalities: CBT, DBT, Narrative, EMDR or Brainspotting, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Brief/Solution Focused
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Experience working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply discipline specific principles and practices to individuals who live with a mild to serious addiction and/or mental health challenge, within a client-centred approach
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of addictions and mental health symptoms and issues, along with evidence-based treatment, including psychotropic medications and associated side effects
  • Knowledge of and ability to incorporate best practices in community support for individuals living with an addiction and/or mental health issue
  • Assessment and crisis intervention skills with broad knowledge of crisis stabilization
  • Advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills
  • Ability to effectively utilize community resources and supports to meet the needs of individuals
  • Ability to work under pressure within a changing environment
  • Working knowledge of the Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, and other relevant legislation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively engage community services and individuals, increasing awareness of services
  • Well-developed problem-solving, prioritization and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Basic proficiency in computer skills; MS Office required
  • Required to provide a satisfactory criminal and vulnerable sector reference check prior to hire
  • Ability to work flexible hours and including weekends
  • May be required to have a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have regular access to a reliable vehicle and provide proof of adequate vehicle insurance (depending on location)
