POSITION OVERVIEW
The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for providing appropriate nutritional assessments, management and support to Southern Health-Santé Sud’s clients and communities. The Clinical Dietitian applies nutrition and dietetic theories, and uses key knowledge and critical thinking skills to strive to improve the health of clients and residents of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Dietitian or in a nutrition related profession.
EDUCATION (DEGREE/DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE)
- Bachelor of Science Degree, Human Nutritional Sciences, dietetic or related area from an accredited Canadian university program or the approved equivalent if internationally educated required.
- Graduate of a recognized dietetic internship program which has been accredited by Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice including the Masters of Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Manitoba or a planned practicum as requested by the College of Dietitians of Manitoba.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Proficiency of both official languages is essential (English/French).
- Knowledge of the Manitoba Long Term Care Standards.
- Knowledge of behavior change counselling and client focused approaches and strategies.
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques.
- Knowledge of Total Parenteral Nutrition for positions located in the Regional Centres.
- Demonstrated ability to perform tasks with efficiency while maintaining high quality standards.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to evolving techniques and procedures in a changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in all tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain an organized work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff, health care professionals and co‐ workers, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS ET COMPÉTENCES:
- Compétences dans les deux langues officielles (français et anglais) est essentielle.
- Connaissances des Normes de soins de longue durée du Manitoba.
- Connaissances du counseling en modification des comportements, ainsi que des approches et des stratégies axées sur le client.
- Connaissances des techniques d’entrevue motivationnelle.
- Connaissance de la nutrition parentérale totale pour les postes situés dans les centres régionaux.
- Capacité démontrée à exécuter des tâches avec efficacité tout en maintenant des normes de qualité élevées.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
- No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
- May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Will be required to support sites where vacation coverage/vacancies apply.
- Will be required to support onboarding process for new dietitians upon hire.
