Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join the Mental Health Substance Use Inpatient Units (Segal Building levels 5, 6, 7, 8) and Psychiatric Assessment Unit teams at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three (3) years’ recent, related nursing experience in an acute psychiatric environment including one (1) years’ experience in client education and/or group facilitation, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Broad knowledge of nursing science theory, and practice within a patient centred care model.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the BCCNM standards of practice for Registered Nurses or Registered Psychiatric Nurses.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental health nursing theory and practice, and the standards of the Canadian Federation of Mental Health Nurses.
  • Broad knowledge of community mental health services, resources, and referral procedures.
  • Knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.
  • Ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and coach.
  • Ability to develop educational programs and material.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and patients and their families, either one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to function as a team member, leader, and facilitator.
  • Ability to provide leadership to customers.
  • Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to operated related equipment such as personal computers and database/statistical software.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Skill in the use of equipment, and in techniques appropriate to Psychiatry.
