If you have extensive technical experience in medical devices and are passionate about patient safety, this role is for you. We’re looking for someone with a curious and analytical mindset, combined with great attention to detail, to make a real difference in this rewarding opportunity.
As part of one of the UK’s largest and busiest NHS trusts, you’ll work and develop your knowledge on a wide variety of medical devices alongside healthcare professionals from multiple specialties, directly contributing to improved patient safety.
You’ll join the Medical Devices Safety Unit (MDSU) - a small, friendly, and specialised team within one of the country’s largest Clinical Engineering Departments. This will give you access to extensive support, resources and expertise; you’ll have everything you need to grow, thrive, and make a meaningful impact in this exciting role.
Please note: depending on applications received, we are also willing to consider candidates who do not meet all the essential criteria. Appointment would be made with expected progression against agreed milestones, this will be under Annex 21 as defined in the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions of Employment. Pay and milestones underpinning such an appointment will be discussed with the successful candidate by the appointing manager.
We are looking for a Clinical Engineering Safety Lead to provide expert advice and support in ensuring the safe and effective use of medical devices across the Trust. This role is crucial in driving best practices to safeguard both patients and healthcare staff.
You will bring extensive technical expertise in medical devices, including their use, repair, maintenance, and management within a healthcare setting. Your experience will also include working closely with healthcare professionals in clinical environments, supporting your knowledge and understanding on the use and safety of medical devices.
Your key responsibilities will include investigating patient safety incidents involving medical devices, identifying causes and contributing factors, and making recommendations to improve patient safety. Strong verbal and written communication skills will be essential, enabling you to effectively investigate and clearly communicate your findings and recommendations.
You will also support the management of medical device safety alerts by assessing their importance, distributing them to relevant stakeholders, and ensuring that necessary actions are taken to address safety concerns.
Additionally, you will support health and safety within the Clinical Engineering department, ensuring safe and efficient operations in all aspects of our medical device service delivery.
With over 19,000 staff, we are one of the biggest employers in the city with a central role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our local population. We play a leading role in research, education and innovation.
Come and join our wonderful team at NUH.
