Flexible work schedule required: PRN must be available Mon – Fri - Day shifts - with 1 rotating Saturday a month based on business needs.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology or related degree plan, from an accredited institution required. Will consider new grads
Experience: Cardiac Rehab experience or internship required. ECG interpretation, exercise prescription, and clinical experience required.
The Clinical Exercise physiologist is medically focused & therapy related. This department works primarily with cardiac and pulmonary phase I patients. Must be comfortable working with post-op, ambulating patients in the hospital setting.
Credential/Certification: A nationally recognized certification related to this field a plus. BLS and ACLS required within 30 days of hire/transfer.

JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Exercise Physiologist 1 coordinates and plans preventative and rehabilitative health care for patients. This position provides care by observing and assessing the patient’s condition. It involves performing interventions and testing, evaluating care results, and educating patients and families about the condition and treatment.

Responsibilities
  • Provides patient care by observing and assessing the patient’s condition. Performs patient care interventions and evaluates the results of care. Exercises and administers medications. Educates patients and their families about the condition, care, and treatment.
  • Assess the patient’s condition by obtaining their medical history. Use written reports, interviews with the patient or family, and observation.
  • Develops exercise prescriptions based on the patient’s condition and medical plan. Performs exercise tolerance testing on various patients, following guidelines. Implements care by teaching the patient prescribed exercises. Reassesses the patient’s response and modifies the exercise plan as needed. Works closely with team members to coordinate care.
  • Documents important assessment information, treatment activities, and patient outcomes in the patient record. Informs team members and family spokesperson of important changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Educates patients and family members about treatments, patient targets, and steps for ongoing care and rehabilitation. Provides home guidelines. Consoles patients and family members and responds to their concerns.
  • Communicates effectively with team members to gather and exchange information about patient assessment, outcomes, and care plans. Helps clinical care technicians and other unit support personnel. Participates in patient care conferences. Assists in developing and implementing discharge instructions and home programs.
  • Researches, develops, and delivers educational programs for patients, families, team members, interns, community groups, and health care professionals. Develops educational tools like handouts, pamphlets, and booklets.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends in exercise physiology and cardiovascular rehabilitation. Contributes to the learning experience of students in health professions.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes and other quality activities. This helps better serve customer needs and improve service quality.
