Description

Company Description
Here at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we are proud to provide expert, compassionate care for our local population. We are ranked as the third in the country for research, embedding education and training across the organisation. Our main hub is the Queen Alexandra Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals on the south coast employing over 8,700 staff.
Our patients come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our hospital stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for getting it right for patients, colleagues, and our community, you will find a home at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
Job Description
The appointee will join the Hand group within the Orthopaedic Team and will be expected to participate in all facets of the provision care for patients with hand and wrist pathology presenting to the hospital. They will be expected to care for patients both in the clinic and operating theatre setting. There will be an expectation through the year that the successful candidate will progress towards independent practice but will be supported by the five consultants within the unit during this time. The department will support preparation for the Diploma in Hand Surgery (British or European).
There will also be an expectation that the successful candidate will undertake some middle grade general orthopaedic on call but will not be formally on the rota. These on call commitments will only be undertaken after the rota co-ordinator has confirmed with the hand consultants that they will not unduly interfere with the fellowship but will allow the successful candidate to maintain their general trauma skills. This Hand & Wrist Fellowship is for a 12 month period (6 months by mutual agreement), starting September 2025.
