Clinical Healthcare Support Worker - 23.5 hours per week.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Clinical Healthcare Support Worker to join our dynamic Breast Care Team.
The Clinical Healthcare Support Worker will assist the clinical members of the breast care team under their supervision to provide a high quality, comprehensive nursing service to all patients and users accessing the breast centre. They will ensure a high standard of patient care is maintained in a clean and safe environment.
You will support the operational day-to-day running of the Breast department, through non-clinical duties, to enable ongoing high quality service delivery.
You will also have the opportunity to work with patients and assisting consultants with breast biopsies.
The successful applicant will join our breast nursing team, working alongside experienced breast care nurses, and an advanced nurse practitioner.
We are looking for an individual who is motivated with their development, enthusiastic and flexible in their approach to work. The ability to work well with all members of the team is essential. You will need excellent communication skills and to be able to work as part of a team.
Core working hours Monday- Friday, 23.5 hours per week.
Shifts: 3x 08:13:30 and 1x 08:30-17:30.
The days of working per week do change with the consultants timetable, so flexibility is required.

  • Previous care experience although not essential
  • Basic knowledge of IT skills - using word, outlook
  • Willingness to learn
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • To be able to use effective skills to communicate with and reassure patients and relatives in circumstances where they may be worried or distressed.
  • Able to communicate with multiple team members - Consultants, ANP’s, radiologists, imaging assistants, reception staff, nursing staff.
  • To assist in the smooth running of symptomatic clinics, breast screening and result clinics.
  • To assist in chaperoning and efficient movement of patients around the breast centre.
  • Completing clinics with notes and paperwork correctly filed and clinic rooms stocked and tidied.

Clinical Healthcare Support Workers (CHCSW’s) are an essential role to aid the smooth running of the breast clinics at Thirlestaine. Without a CHCSW, the breast clinics can not run. CHCSW’s assist with the following:

  • To assist in the smooth running of the symptomatic clinics, breast screening and results clinics.
  • Working with all members of the breast care team to assist in the chaperoning and efficient movement of patients around the breast centre.
  • Ensuring clinics start on time. Completing clinics with notes and paperwork correctly filed and clinic rooms stocked and tidied.
  • Caring for patients who have received bad news and caring for those patients who are going through cancer treatment.
  • A requirement of the role is to position and manoeuvre patients and equipment on a daily basis.
  • To assist clinician with breast biopsies, examinations, ultrasounds and mammograms.
  • Cover the service to ensure safe delivery of care and clinics.
