A Brief Overview

The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist (CI Pharmacist) is responsible for the EMR medication management component implementation, including management across six community hospitals and a 1000-bed academic medical center. This resource is an expert in patient safety and the use of technology to optimize care delivery processes and effectively communicate patient care activity. The CI Pharmacist specializes in the medication process, from ordering to administration, and is responsible for effective process design, development, and implementation of the Electronic Medical Record and Clinical Decision Support. This role supports pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other clinicians as the resource for requests related to the EMR changes and additions. The CI Pharmacist demonstrates independent decision making as appropriate in evaluation of requests for system improvements and determines feasibility and advisability of system changes. The CI Pharmacist works closely with clinicians, departmental leadership, Quality, Patient Safety, Accreditation and Licensure Departments and Information Systems staff to clarify needs, prioritize requests, design workflow to fit with electronic systems, and execute change and facilitate adaptation to the Electronic Medical Record.Additional Responsibilities

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of Pharmacist experience (Required) and
  • Hospital pharmacy experience (Preferred) and
  • Experience working on patient safety initiatives and IT systems related to pharmacy/EMR (Preferred)
  • Epic protocol building knowledge (Preferred)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem solving ability. (Required proficiency)
  • Notable client service, communication, presentation, project management and relationship building skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment. (Required proficiency)
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous, dynamic environment (Required proficiency)
  • Strong skills in MS Office Suite (especially Excel). (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledgeable in the Eclipsys product line or equivalent (Preferred proficiency)
