SUMMARY

The Department of Rehabilitation Counseling in Virginia Commonwealth University’s College of Health Professions invites applications for a non-tenure track clinical instructor position. This will be a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment.
The Masters of Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling program is nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned Master’s degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling or Counselor Education.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or eligible for licensure in Virginia upon hire.
  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) credential or ability to pursue upon hire.
  • Experience as a professional counselor in relevant community settings to include public and/or private agencies.
  • Understanding of liability, risks and skills needed to work with a wide variety of agencies that accept students.
  • Ability, knowledge and skills needed to facilitate and manage student success plans.
  • Experience in both mental health and addiction treatment.
  • Evidence of a strong professional identity as a counselor.
  • Evidence of serving as a clinical supervisor.
  • Ability to perform regulatory, administrative tasks associated with agreements, completing student paperwork, and placing students in community settings.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of professionalism, respect, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision.
  • Experience with effective teaching and course design in a variety of formats (e.g., face-to-face; hybrid/HyFlex; online).
  • Evidence of university-level teaching and supervision experience teaching in a CACREP-accredited counseling program.
  • Service contributions at national, state, local, and/or college level.
Responsibilities

The clinical instructor’s primary responsibilities include the coordination of clinical placements, communicating with site supervisors, evaluation of clinical experiences, teaching practicum and internship class, and working with faculty in establishing new clinical sites.
Secondarily, there may be opportunities to teach other courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. This position will have a 3+3+2 teaching load (which includes teaching practicum and internship courses) within the department, and will participate in all faculty planning and administrative meetings.
Upon appointment, the Clinical Instructor will be required to pursue the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) credential if they do not already possess one.
