We offer an excellent benefit package: Monday through Friday schedule (No weekends) Comprehensive Medical Insurance through Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Employer-funded Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) Dental and Vision Insurance 401(k) with company match Company-paid life insurance, with additional options for Long-Term Disability (LTD), Critical Illness, and Accident coverage Generous Vacation and Sick time 11 Holidays As the Clinical Laboratory Assistant you will process requests and receive clinical testing material within the Pathology Laboratory ; accessions, processes, and routes clinical testing material to appropriate testing area; transcribes/scans relevant clinical information into Pathology case; handles requests for laboratory reports, specimen tracking, and laboratory requests via phone, email, mail, and other correspondence methods; assists with the performance of laboratory quality control, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance activities; maintains laboratory supply inventories and processes requests for supply orders provides administrative support to Pathologists as appropriate Responsibilities: Read, understand, and comply with Laboratory and RPCI Policy with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures (i.e., Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Automobile Policies and Procedures, Employee Handbook, and Quality Assurance Manual); and ensure that all staff members follow instructions. Answers telephones, routes callers, takes messages, and provides routine information to parties requesting services from the clinical laboratories. Transcribes, prints, sorts, mails, faxes, duplicates, and distributes various medical reports, records, files, forms, correspondence, proposals, charts, and other items for the organization. Obtains required Release of Information signatures for external routing of laboratory reports/materials as necessary. Receives and accessions laboratory testing material within the Laboratory Information System(s); completes necessary processing and orders. Files and removes laboratory material from physical inventory locations; maintains the integrity of the physical/electronic inventory for retrieval and chain of custody of stored material. Retrieves relevant laboratory testing information from multiple information systems. Handles laboratory specimens utilizing appropriate blood/body fluid precautions Performs immediate laboratory specimen processing. Packages, tracks, and receives materials for courier transport between laboratory, reference laboratory, and pathology offices. Ensures compliance with required HIPAA and de-identification requirements; packages diagnostic specimens for external shipment following regulatory shipping requirements. Assists in receiving, storing, distributing, and controlling of laboratory supply inventories. Maintains, files, and stores relevant laboratory documentation in accordance with relevant regulatory standards for required storage periods. Enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature and participating in in-service meetings and workshops. Prepares other written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed. Attends meetings as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Shares appropriate communication with other personnel Assists other laboratory personnel when necessary Requirements Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of technical laboratory or technical medical experience; or: An equivalent combination of training and experience
Responsibilities
