Under the general direction of the Laboratory Manager, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical procedures and analyses to provide data for health maintenance, diagnoses, treatment and monitoring of medical conditions; enhances quality of patient care and service through interdepartmental cooperation and quality assurance protocols; analyzes specimens including blood, body fluids, tissues and cells; relays test results to physicians; cross-matches blood for transfusion; and oversees the work of lab assistants and other non-certified personnel. All shifts available.
QUALIFICATIONS
· CLS generalist: experience in blood bank required; knowledge of hematology, chemistry, microbiology and immunology at a level required in medical technology desirable.
· Current (or temporary) California CLS License; ASCP or other MLS certification desirable.
· Knowledge and practice of standard precautions and policies related to handling of potentially infectious agents
· Knowledge of safety procedures relating to operation of laboratory equipment and handling of chemicals
· Technical and analytical skills for analysis and interpretation of test procedures and results in order to determine appropriate correction action for abnormal or atypical results
· Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science degree in clinical laboratory or related sciences
· Minimum Experience: 0 to 6 months, preferably in a hospital lab setting
· Preferred Experience: 1 to 2 years, with at least 6 months in a hospital setting
· Strong verbal/written communication and listening skills, including excellent interpersonal skills.
· Good computer skills to enter information and run reports
· Must be willing to work night shifts, share holidays and on-call duty. The ability to adapt to unexpected changes and emergency situations is desirable.
