Description

The laboratory Microbiologist is responsible for performing all aspects of testing in a full-service cannabis laboratory offering state mandated services to Michigan’s cannabis distributors, cultivators, and manufacturers to ensure safety and accuracy. This role assist lab managers in the development of new methods and participate in documenting and implementing Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Quality Inventory procedures. Specifically, this role requires knowledge of analytical mass spectrometer instruments operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and method validation. Work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laboratory materials and equipment.
LOCATION: Walled Lake, MI
REPORTS TO: Laboratory Director; Laboratory Manager
WORK SCHEDULE: Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • PhD or MS in analytical chemistry/biology or related discipline with previous cannabis safety testing experience. Bachelors will be considered
  • 2+ years relevant credential lab experience
  • Knowledge of ISO Standards.
  • Experience in cannabis safety testing is necessary and highly desirable.
  • Thorough understanding of analytical technology, method development, method qualification/validation, and regulatory analytical requirements.
  • Laboratory experience performing method development, qualification, and validation activities.
  • Knowledge of Agilent Systems 1100 & 1200 series
  • Knowledge of GC, MS, HPLC, GmP, and many more
  • Proven ability to successfully work in a team environment.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply technical and product-related information in a professional consultative manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all organizational levels
  • Must maintain a high level of integrity, personal motivation, and sense of urgency
  • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing of samples of cannabis inflorescence, concentrates, and other cannabis products for analysis
  • Measuring and tracking samples, preparing samples for analysis, sample analysis, reporting results, and entering data into LIMS and Metrc, method validation, method development in accordance with ISO 17025 / MRA requirements, completing logs, and maintaining hygienic lab conditions including washing labware
  • Perform cannabis extractions and prepare samples for analysis on GCMS, GCFID, as well as other state mandated tests. Experience in operation, and maintenance of all instrumentation is required
  • Responsible for preparation and tracking of solutions and maintaining all relevant logs
  • Perform routine quality control, calibration, and equipment maintenance in accordance with established laboratory protocols
  • Promote a positive and safe work environment through understanding of safety (OSHA) regulations, practices, and procedures, including but not limited to biological and chemical hazards
  • Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties delegated by the Laboratory Manager consistent with skill level and training
  • Know how to review and quantify data that is generated from an instrument and understand how to troubleshoot data when it does not meet criteria listed in Policy & Procedure documentation
  • Perform data review, enter, review, and approve test results into LIMS and Metrc. Ensures test results are accurate and valid.
  • Work with a team of scientists in a fast-paced environment to design and implement analytical strategies
  • Cross-train on analytical methods (LCMS, ICP-MS), train other staff
  • Prepares, reviews, and edits method transfer, qualification, and validation protocols, analytical technical reports, and regulatory documentation.
  • Maintains equipment and instruments in good operating condition recognize any malfunctions and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Provides technical expertise and advises project representatives/teams on topics pertaining to assay analysis and development
  • Performs other tasks as specified by the manager/director and/or duties required and published by regulatory agencies.
