RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership in all aspects of nursing care.
• Act as positive and accountable role model in providing direct patient care.
• Assess, evaluate and review the requirements of individual patient needs prior to their endoscopy procedure.
• Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards an evidence based care planning approach.
• Identify objectives, evaluate and manage the implementation of best practice, policies and procedures.
• Provide specialist information and education to Patients and their families with regard to improving their understanding, coping and effective management of their upcoming endoscopy procedure.
• Be self-directed in his/her learning to ensure continued professional credibility.
• Manage the caseload of all patients undergoing elective endoscopy (urgent, routine and surveillance) procedures within the Mercy University Hospital.
• Use a patient centred approach in all aspects of practice.
• Provide patients/carers with advice, support and reassurance via telephone calls
• Develop, contribute to and review SOPs, policies, protocols, patient information leaflets and other associated documentation.
• Identify and implement health promotion strategies for patient/client groups in accordance with public health agenda including diabetes/obesity/smoking cessation.
• Respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients, serving as their advocate.
• Contribute to service planning and budgetary processes through use of audit data and specialist knowledge.
• Review policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols in relation to the gastrointestinal service in regards a pre assessment pre endoscopy procedure to ensure they are continually updated in line with best practice evidence.
• Record information on patients electronically (on iPMS), which will provide data for auditing the service.
