Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensuring the Oncology/Haematology Department is managed in a cost effective and efficient manner while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
  • Offering support and guidance to the CNM2’s and staff in these areas.
  • Providing innovative and effective leadership to nursing and allied staff.
  • Participating in the Nurse Management Team in the effective management of services.
  • Assisting in the development and the effective operation of all assigned services; through effective forward planning and organisation of resources and workload.
  • Ensuring that every effort is made to meet National Key Performance Indicators and targets relating to the Oncology/Haematology Service.
  • Assisting in devising service plans for the area and adherence to budgets through financial awareness.
  • Developing and monitoring cost awareness and liaising with the Supplies Department in the ordering and control of stock and trials of new products.
  • Ensuring that equipment is correctly handled and maintained in safe working order as per HIQA standards.
  • Be aware of all health & safety legislation, relevant to the nursing workforce.
  • Ensuring that the nursing workforce is aware of health & safety legislation and that Mercy University Hospital’s policy in relation to health and safety at work is adhered to.
  • Fostering a clinical learning environment within the clinical area.
  • Supervising and ensuring that Student Assessments in practical clinical placements are completed (pre and post graduate).
  • Participating in clinical placement of students as required.
  • Using the outcomes of Audits to develop action plans and supporting their implementation.
  • Fostering a culture of audit and action based outcomes.
  • As a member of the Senior Nurse Management Team, providing senior nurse leadership, including analysing and directing patient flow and staffing resource allocation out of hours.
  • Providing professional advice on all issues relating to Nursing.

Eligibility Criteria - Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

  • Be registered in the relevant division of the Register of nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI / Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na h’Eireann) or entitled to be so registered.
  • Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 must be in the specialty of Oncology/ Haematology Nursing.
  • Must possess a post graduate qualification in Oncology/Haematology or management and demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
  • Be proficient in Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment administration.
