  • Be registered, or eligible for registration in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years qualified and have previous experience within Medical Nursing.
  • Have previous management or deputising for CNM2 experience is an advantage.
  • Display evidence of the provision of a high level of professional and clinical leadership in relation to nursing practice, clinical practice and evidence based decision making.
  • Display evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures.
  • Have some experience in change management through a project or process pertaining to the area of work.
  • Will play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodology.
  • Possess excellent Communication skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in clinical Audit
Responsibilities

OVERVIEW OF ROLE:

The primary role of CNMI is to provide safe and effective care to patients, he/ she will play a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The CNMI in collaboration with the CNMII will co-ordinate and lead in the implementation and provision of quality care.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the CNM II to patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach.
  • Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership to the point of care staff.
  • Work with the CNM II to be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of service user care by all staff in designated area.
  • Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland).
  • Collaborate with service users, family, carers and other staff in treatment / care.
  • Assess, Plan, Implement and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
  • To regularly evaluate and monitor patient care by using the hospitals quality systems to ensure that care is delivered.
  • To develop and promote good relationships with patients and carers.
  • To work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
  • To evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department.
  • To ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment, and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.
  • To ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents is adhered to.
  • Attend weekly scheduling meeting in CNM II absence so that ward activity/acuity can be matched to staffing levels for the following week.
  • To have a knowledge of time management system (Clockwise) so that staff’s clockwise is kept up to date in CNM II absence
  • Participate in and encourage the development of evidence-based practice.
  • Assist in unit audits and data collection.
  • Monitor incident occurrence on the unit. Follow up with the CNM II.
  • Ensure patient satisfaction surveys are completed and adhere to the KPI.
  • Input and close off incidents on the hospital’s Viclarity reporting system.
  • Develop QIP’S (Quality Improvement Plan’s) for the ward and see them through.
  • Update Specific Consultant Protocols for the ward as needed.
  • Ensure PSS (Patient Satisfaction Survey’s) are completed for each patient on the ward prior to discharge.
  • Provide the necessary supervision, co-ordination and deployment of nursing and support staff within the clinical setting to ensure the optimum delivery of care in the designated area through allocating work fairly and competently.
  • Assist the CNM II in maintaining bed management and patient flow.
  • Senior clinical point of call for communication to the multidisplinary team.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the accreditation standards within the ward and the co ordination of staff nurses in the delegation of accreditation tasks.
  • Assist the CNM II in workforce planning including assisting with the roster.
  • Manage all resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Lead on practice development within the clinical area.
  • Assist the CNM II to lead and implement change using lean methodology.
  • Work within a team to contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.
  • Actively participate in the Nursing Management structure by supporting the CNM II and deputising in his / her absence when required to do so.
  • Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.
  • Facilitate nurses in clinical areas to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document the care of patients within service.
  • Orientate all students and new staff to the ward.
  • Carry out monthly rounding meetings with staff.
  • Ensure paperwork is up to date for new ward staff being inducted and returned to HR department in a timely manner.
  • Have a working knowledge of Team’s for communicating with ward staff.
  • Escalate any issues or problems on ward to CNM II.
