JOB SUMMARY The Clinical Nurse is responsible for competently providing safe and effective direct care. The Clinical Nurse assesses care needs, plans, implements and evaluates programs of care to include patients and families. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for ensuring that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, aligned to Sidra Standards of Practice. The Clinical Nurse participates in the supervision, orientation and training of staff and is responsible for education of patients, families and students. The Clinical Nurse is professionally accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer. POPULATION SUMMARY Population: Adolescent and adult women. Includes but not limited to Gynecological diseases and conditions requiring medical or surgical treatment. Complications of early pregnancy Ante/ intra and post-partum care of mother and baby. Medical patients Aesthetics follow up. Day case procedure such as iron infusions. Care environment: Care of assigned population in an urgent care/obstetric triage setting Note: May also include male patients admitted for cardiac, urology, or aesthetic procedures and BMT donor patients who require admission. KEY COMPETENCIES Competencies to be assessed as outlined in the Women’s Urgent Care unit orientation and competency booklets. These competencies include but are not limited to: Head-to-Toe assessment, recognition of the unwell adult Triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) system and OTAS (Obstetric Triage Acuity Scale) Early recognition of pre-eclampsia / eclampsia in pregnant women IV fluid management Phlebotomy Capillary blood / POC sampling Specimen collection Emergency medication preparation and administration Pain assessment and management Risk screening and management. Skin integrity / wound assessment and management Nutritional assessment Cardiorespiratory monitoring Blood transfusion including mass blood transfusion. Rapid infuser and fluid warmer Procedural sedation Tissue adhesive wound closure Nurse-Initiated medication administration Staple and suture removal. Urinary catheterization Imminent delivery Emergency transfer to OR Incubator, radiant warmer and infant resuscitation system use Hemodynamic monitoring, invasive and non-invasive Fetal Monitoring / CTG Gynecological and obstetric emergencies Documentation and reporting of adverse incidents and sentinel events. Poison management of toxicology and overdose emergencies. Management of diabetic Ketoacidosis Acute mental health assessments and interventions Recognizing and reporting of signs and symptoms of domestic abuse and neglect Sepsis early recognition, escalation, and management Customer service skills Communication skills Care of the newborn Discharge planning and education. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA Education ESSENTIAL Bachelor Degree in Nursing (4 years) Registered Nurse. PREFERRED Post graduate certificate in specialty if applicable in country of origin. Experience 2+ years of recent clinical nursing experience within the relevant specialty from a highly esteemed healthcare institution. No minimum experience requirement for University of Calgary Qatar Graduates only. Certification and Licensure Valid professional Nursing license in country of origin.
