Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide expert, direct patient care, acts as a key link in the multidisciplinary team, and offers education to patients and colleagues.
  • Assessing patients with LUTS, performing procedures like catheterisation, Urodynamics, managing and developing treatment plans, and providing crucial follow-up and support, through nurse-led clinics that improve access to care and reduce waiting times for patients.
  • Responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care under Urology services in Mercy university Hospital. Support the Nurse services of the Urology Department.
  • Provide a specialist Urology nursing service for patients who require support and treatment through the continuum of care.
  • Undertake comprehensive patient assessments to include physical, psychological, social and spiritual elements of care using best evidence-based practice in Urology and within agreed interdisciplinary protocols to achieve patient/client centred outcomes.
  • Identify and agree appropriate referral pathways for patients with urology care needs.
  • Participate in case review with MDT colleagues.
  • Use a case management approach to patients with complex LUTS needs in collaboration with MDT in both Primary and Secondary Care as appropriate.
  • Communicate, negotiate and represent patient’s family and/or carer values and decisions in relation to their condition in collaboration with MDT colleagues in both Primary and Secondary Care as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain a register of patients with Urology nursing needs within Clinical Nurse Specialist Caseload.
  • Maintain a record of clinically relevant data aligned to National Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as directed and advised by the DON.
  • Maintain clinical competence in patient management within Urology nursing, keeping up to date with relevant research to ensure the implementation of evidence-based practice.
  • Provide leadership in clinical practice and act as a resource and role model for urology nursing practice.
  • Provide an efficient, effective and high-quality service, respecting the needs of each patient, family and/or carer.
  • Effectively manage time and caseload in order to meet changing and developing service needs.
