JOB SUMMARY

To assist in the development and implementation of clinical and research services within the Department of Radiology’s Division of Nuclear Medicine. The Clinical Nuclear Pharmacist will manage patient-facing drug compounding and dispensing as well as lead investigational and theranostic trials, contribute to pharmacy training programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and support multidisciplinary collaboration across clinical and academic missions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

• Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent.
• Board Certified Nuclear Pharmacist.
• Residency training or equivalent experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

• Strong organizational, analytical, and mentoring skills.
• Registered Pharmacist in the State of Michigan with controlled substance license.
• Experience in clinical pharmacy practice and didactic/clinical teaching.
• Familiarity with cyclotrons, radionuclide generators, synthesis modules, and QA equipment (HPLC, GC, TLC).

Clinical Responsibilities (50%)

• Consult with nursing and medical staff regarding prescriptions, orders, drug and pharmaceutical detail, patient reactions, errors and complaints.
• Provide prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals.
• Compound medications, according to professional standards and practices.
• Conduct Drug Utilization Reviews and prepare Drug Review Criteria for medical staff review and approval.
• Monitor drug therapy in collaboration with the medical staff.
• Suggest alternative drug therapy as appropriate.
• Manage drug therapy regimens according to medical staff-approved protocols.
• Participate in medical staff or hospital committees dealing with medication use.
• Assist in the development and implementation of clinical pharmacy practices consistent with the Hospital’s needs and objectives.
• Participate in rounds with medical staff and assist in establishing individual patient drug therapy programs.
• Interview patients to obtain drug histories.
• Counsel patients regarding proper drug dosage and possible side effects.
• Assist in the development of staff educational and training programs within and relating to the Clinical Division.
• Participate in the training of staff, residents, and students from the School of Pharmacy.
• Assist in the development and implementation of departmental analytical resources for drug analysis.
• Support and oversee clinical services related to PET, SPECT, and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals.
• Ensure compliance with FDA cGMP, NRC, and Michigan Board of Pharmacy standards.
• Perform aseptic techniques, sterility testing, and radiation safety protocols.
• Maintain SOPs and documentation; lead QA/QC, CAPA investigations, and audits.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians and trainees.
• Support theranostic services at BCSC, main campus, and other locations.
• Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system, as required.
• Patient image/therapy protocol preparation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Research Responsibilities (50%)

• Manufacture and dispense investigational radiopharmaceuticals for clinical research.
• Provide pharmacy support for the Radiology-Rogel theranostics trial team.
• Lead or assist with regulatory submissions (INDs, IRBs) and study documentation.
• Collaborate on sponsor-funded projects (e.g., Lantheus, Radionetics, Atonco).
• Mentor PharmD students, fellows, and Radiation Oncology residents.
• Develop and help lead a nuclear pharmacy research training program.
• Lead or assist in generating publications, presentation, and dissemination of research findings.
• Develop research programs and projects related to the utilization and effectiveness of clinical pharmacy practice.
• Assist in the continued development of the Drug Information Service and maintain communication with service users.
• Lead or assist with regulatory documentation generation (INDs, IRBs, Case Report Forms).
• Other duties as assigned.
