The UCSF Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) is at the forefront of discovery science, with a mission to identify, investigate, and solve the most critical questions in cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary biology. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff Research Associate II (SRA II) to join the Matthay and Calfee Lab in the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI). Our lab is at the forefront of translational research in critical illness, with a focus on acute lung injury, ARDS, and infectious diseases. We integrate human clinical samples with experimental animal models to better understand disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful, patient-centered research in a highly collaborative academic environment at UCSF’s Parnassus campus. A key component of this role is hands-on work with mouse models, including administering experimental interventions, monitoring animals, and collecting biological samples. The mouse studies sometimes require work after 5 pm until 10 pm. The SRA II will also perform biomarker and protein analyses on human biospecimens using platforms such as ELISA, Luminex, and ELLA in support of multiple clinical and translational studies. Additional responsibilities include receiving, processing, and managing large inventories of clinical samples, ensuring accurate tracking and data integrity, and conducting rigorous quality control of experimental results. The SRA II will maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, support lab operations through supply ordering and inventory management, and work closely with fellows and investigators to coordinate purchasing across multiple grant-funded studies. The role also includes ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards and training new lab members to promote efficient and high-quality research operations.
