JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled and HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist, specialising in Clinical Chemistry, for a unique remote freelance role. This position is designed for an experienced professional seeking a flexible, low-commitment contract to provide crucial oversight and expertise.
This is a retainer role requiring approximately one dedicated session per month, for which you will be paid £200 per session.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist in Clinical Chemistry.
  • Proven experience working in a UK clinical laboratory environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of UKAS ISO 15189 standards and best practices in quality management.
  • Expertise in analysing EQA and IQC data with a keen eye for detail.
  • Experience in assay verification and validation processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive and professional communicator, able to work independently.

Responsibilities

In your monthly session, you will be responsible for providing high-level oversight and expert review, which includes:

  • External Quality Control (EQC): Reviewing and authorising reports from our EQA schemes (e.g., UK NEQAS), ensuring performance is within acceptable limits and overseeing the implementation of any corrective actions.
  • Internal Quality Control (IQC): Reviewing monthly IQC data, including Levey-Jennings charts, to identify any trends, shifts, or biases in our analytical platforms.
  • Assay Verification & Validation: Reviewing and signing off on verification and validation reports for new reagents, instruments, or tests to ensure they meet required performance specifications.
  • Clinical Advice: Being available to provide expert interpretation and advice on complex clinical cases or unusual results, as needed.
