PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• At present the hours of attendance are between 8.00am to 8.00pm with a luncheon interval of one hour.
• Report to the Chief Medical Scientist in the Molecular Department, however the chosen candidate may be required to report on a day to day basis to designated senior staff e.g. Senior Medical Scientist.
• To perform molecular work to the highest professional standards as determined by the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist.
• Participate in training staff as required.
• Ensure, in co-operation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist /designated senior staff, appropriate compliance with International and National Guidelines and standards for the provision of a Molecular Laboratory service and actively participate in internal and external quality control.
• Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the position.
• To actively participate in the Department’s continued commitment to accreditation to ISO15189.
• Co-operate in evaluating equipment, consumables and research projects.
• Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or hospital information.
• The chosen candidate will participate in ensuring that effective safety procedures are in place to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
• Assist and co-operate with the Laboratory Management Team in developing procedures to be followed in preventing and managing accidents occurring in the work area.
• To perform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be assigned to him/her by an officer designated by the Board in consultation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist / Laboratory Manager. As per MF-GEN-0098 contained in staff members training folder.
