JOB DESCRIPTION

We are the makers of possible
BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it’s no small feat. It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.
We believe that the human element, across our global teams, is what allows us to continually evolve. Join us and discover an environment in which you’ll be supported to learn, grow and become your best self. Become a maker of possible with us.
The Clinical Specialist within the Medical Affairs team is responsible for providing expert medical, scientific, technical, and customer-focused support to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing optimization of BDI UCC products. This role involves building strong relationships with end users, identifying and engaging Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), supporting product evaluations and conversions, delivering clinical education and in-servicing, and expanding brand recognition through strategic clinical initiatives.
The Clinical Specialist plays a key role in delivering efficient, effective, and successful implementation of BDI UCC products, supported by exemplary continuous follow-up. This includes delivering high-impact clinical programs to both internal and external customers, aimed at increasing knowledge, confidence, and comfort with product applications while optimizing the use of BD systems. The role also involves engaging in compliant scientific exchange and supporting the development of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to strengthen BD’s clinical influence and market presence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Graduation from a Canadian approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years hospital-based Nursing practice, with bedside experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a past clean driving record for a minimum of 3 years, as well as meet BD’s auto safety standards.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • This field-based position based in British Columbia or Alberta requires 50–80% travel, with the ideal candidate residing near a major airport to facilitate travel mainly between British Columbia and Alberta, and/or other provinces as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and timelines effectively.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work cohesively in cross-functional and matrixed environments to achieve shared goals.
  • Proven adaptability, with the capacity to manage shifting priorities, seek and apply feedback, and navigate change while maintaining strong time and project management.
  • Skilled in leading customer training initiatives, including planning, gaining alignment, and delivering clear, consistent communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong business acumen and a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication skills—verbal, non-verbal, and written—across all levels of leadership in a highly regulated industry.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including negotiation, decision-making, influence, and conflict resolution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced or master’s degree.
  • 5 years hospital-based Nursing practice, with bedside experience.
At BD, we prioritize on-site collaboration because we believe it fosters creativity, innovation, and effective problem-solving, which are essential in the fast-paced healthcare industry. For most roles, we require a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week to maintain our culture of excellence and ensure smooth operations, while also recognizing the importance of flexibility and work-life balance. Remote or field-based positions will have different workplace arrangements which will be indicated in the job posting.
For certain roles at BD, employment is contingent upon the Company’s receipt of sufficient proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. In some locations, testing for COVID-19 may be available and/or required. Consistent with BD’s Workplace Accommodations Policy, requests for accommodation will be considered pursuant to applicable law.
Responsibilities
  • Active Engagement: Participate in discovery, validation, and implementation phases with ongoing clinical support of the BDI UCC portfolio.
  • Product Expertise: Showcase expert knowledge of our products to educate both internal and external collaborators and offer clinical context. Stay current on UCC clinical knowledge and BD products/services by reviewing literature and collaborating with global and regional medical affairs and clinical teams. Help Sales teams with in-depth product and clinical education and training, coordination of product evaluations, facilitation of conversions, and oversight of clinical assessment program execution.
  • Healthcare professional engagement: Cultivate positive connections with end-users through providing product in-servicing and clinical education. Provides routine follow-up support to customers and maintain a national database of reference users and potential Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). Communicates customer feedback and observed healthcare trends to internal departments to support product quality, service development, and customer happiness.
  • Scientific Exchange: Engage in compliant scientific exchanges in response to medical and clinical inquiries.
  • Marketing Material Development: Contribute to developing training materials in accordance with Medical, Legal, and Regulatory policies. Work closely with Marketing to ensure clinical support programs are current and evidence based.
