JOB SUMMARY:

The Spinal Nurse Clinical Lead is responsible for leading and managing the nursing provision for patients with spinal injuries or conditions affecting the spinal cord. The postholder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-based care and support the development of spinal services within our community client base.
They will be expected to provide clinical leadership, develop protocols and care pathways for safe discharge, oversee staff education, and drive improvements in patient outcomes.

EDUCATION AND RESEARCH:

  • Lead or participate in spinal care teaching programmes for support worker and other healthcare professionals.
  • Keep up to date with advances in spinal cord injury care and incorporate new knowledge into practice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) – NMC registration essential.
  • Post-registration qualification in spinal care or neuroscience (desirable).
  • Leadership or management qualification (e.g., ILM Level 5, MSc, PGCert) (desirable).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Significant post-registration experience in spinal injuries, rehabilitation, or neurology.
  • Proven experience in team leadership, staff development, and service improvement.
  • Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team and complex care environment.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Expert knowledge of spinal cord injury nursing and associated complications.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Able to manage change, conflict, and operational pressures effectively.
  • Familiar with clinical governance, audit, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Commitment to patient-centred care and safeguarding.
