Exciting opportunities at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust have arisen. We are seeking a Clinical Vascular Scientist to join our large team of 11 clinical vascular scientists plus 2 STP students. The vascular scanning department covers services over three sites, Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital. We have close relationships with the consultants and the LAVVU team, especially at Charing Cross with clinics, scanning rooms and a LAVVU theatre all on the same floor.
The job involves an interesting case load, we perform the full spectrum of vascular scans, plus specialist investigations such as AV fistula, TCD, TCCD for sickle cell and mesenterics for MALS and nutcracker syndrome. We support CPD, with interests in research, teaching or the SVT actively encouraged. Non-clinical time is allocated for CPD and unit responsibilities. There are regular opportunities to attend conferences including the annual SVT and CX symposium.
We are an accredited STP & HSST training centre and play an active role in the programme. Suitable candidates have the opportunity to attend Train the Trainer and take on a training officer role for STPs. As an accredited HSST training centre we are also able to offer the opportunity to advance your development by applying for HSST (subject to funding approval).
As a band 7 CVS, we would expect you to be independently scanning and reporting and if not accredited with the CSVS, working towards this.
Analyse requests from clinician’s, select appropriate tests and prioritize them according to clinical need and resources available.
Communicate results and diagnostic information to referring clinicians with appropriate urgency including alerting the clinician when urgent further investigation or treatment is indicated. Be able to communicate complex information clearly to clinicians to enable effective decisions.
Maintain an up to date knowledge of scientific and technical practices and keep abreast of technical change and development. Maintain standards of practice as required by the Society of Vascular Technology.
The post holder will behave courteously and professionally at all times and seek to ensure that the highest level of service is provided by the vascular diagnostic service.
Provide expert advice, support and guidance to junior staff and to the wider vascular team.
To triage requests from clinicians, prioritise them according to clinical need and perform the appropriate test.
To undertake, interpret and report ultrasound scans and other tests for vascular conditions.
