Overview The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position. Under the supervision and collaboration of a physician hospitalist, the nurse practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care and practice to include obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examinations, order and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion inventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the NP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement. Qualifications Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Must have a current registered nurse license in the State of Alabama, with designation: CRNP, current ACLS provider. Graduate of an approved program for Nurse Practitioners Completion of a neonatal nurse practitioner certificate (NNP) Certified to render care to patients in pediatric/newborn age group. Previous experience in newborn nursery or neonatal unit desired.
Responsibilities
The nurse practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care under the supervision of a physician hospitalist, including obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, and diagnosing illnesses. Additionally, the NP is accountable for indirect care responsibilities that support patient care, such as staff education and quality improvement.
