JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cloud Data Consultant will work closely with the Cloud and Data Engineering teams to provide expertise in cloud database design, optimization, and governance. This role involves hands-on involvement in data and cloud platform implementation, performance tuning, access control, disaster recovery, and compliance within cloud environments such as Azure or AWS. The consultant will ensure best practices are followed across data-related activities and contribute to strategic decisions around data architecture and management.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Programming & Systems Analysis, or Science with a specialization in Computer Studies.
  • Minimum 2 years in data consulting, data engineering, or database administration roles.
  • Minimum 2 years working in cloud-based software development or infrastructure projects.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server databases and cloud platforms (Azure or AWS).
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing cloud-based database and data solutions.
  • Strong background in cloud database administration, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Solid knowledge of data modeling and ability to function as a data architecture consultant.
  • Experience with SQL performance tuning, indexing, and resource optimization.
  • Familiarity with replication, failover, and high availability in cloud environments.
  • Certification in SQL Server, Azure, or AWS (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate) is a plus.
  • Additional hands-on experience with DB2, MariaDB, or MySQL is beneficial.
Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance on the design and optimization of cloud-based database and data solutions.
  • Monitor and improve the performance and availability of cloud-hosted databases and data services.
  • Regularly review and advise on query execution plans to enhance performance.
  • Set up monitoring for CPU, memory, and storage utilization, with proactive alerting.
  • Implement and consult on role-based access control in Azure and ensure the principle of least privilege.
  • Maintain and document configurations and ensure compliance with SLAs.
  • Define and review standard operating procedures for cloud data operations.
  • Contribute to and review backup/restore strategies and disaster recovery plans.
  • Lead and consult on data implementation and governance frameworks.
  • Work with application and infrastructure teams to assess and improve data design and architecture.
  • Develop and enforce standards for data environments and consult on improvements.
  • Educate and advise teams on SQL best practices, cloud-native data tools, and design patterns.
  • Mentor junior data engineers and contribute to internal training and knowledge sharing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cloud data issues; provide incident response as needed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
  • Support on-call and 24x7 operations when required, including physical presence if needed.
