WORK LOCATION:

  • Candidates must be local to the Triangle region of North Carolina.
  • Onsite required on Day 1 to collect equipment.
  • This position may require up to 3 days per week onsite at a Triangle-area office for meetings and team activities.
    Pay: $85/hour

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Solid hands-on experience with Azure infrastructure and services.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure networking, governance, and security.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation (Bicep, ARM, PowerShell).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve Azure/on-premise integration issues.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT-T) Web Systems team is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer (Azure) for a long-term contract role. The Cloud Engineer will be responsible for implementing, managing, and optimizing Azure cloud infrastructure in a secure and scalable manner, while supporting modernization initiatives across applications and services.
This position requires strong technical skills in Azure infrastructure, networking, and automation, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, developers, and security teams in a large public-sector environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the setup and configuration of Core Azure subscriptions, resource groups, and environments.
  • Implement Azure Policies, RBAC permissions, and tagging standards.
  • Deploy and support Azure networking components including VWAN, Azure Firewall, VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints, and VPN/ExpressRoute.
  • Configure and manage Azure Application Gateways and related services.
  • Contribute to infrastructure automation using Bicep, ARM templates, or PowerShell scripts.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity and hybrid application issues between Azure and on-premise environments.
  • Support incident resolution and participate in root cause analysis.
  • Monitor Azure environments, configure alerting, logging, and diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with architecture, development, and security teams to support deployments and infrastructure changes.
  • Follow and enforce cloud governance, compliance, and security policies.
