Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Reporting to: IT Development Manager
Salary: £27,000 - £43,000 depending on experience

INTRODUCTION

We are looking for a talented IT professional to join our cloud engineering team who wants to build and operate our AWS infrastructure.
As Cloud Engineer you will build and deploy cloud-native solutions, apps and infrastructure that drive and support the continued growth of CDER Group. You will be responsible for delivering on assigned projects, individually or as a team.
You will be working in a DevOps capacity in a small team of experts that are part of a wider multifaceted technical team. You will coordinate with complementary teams such as IT Service Desk, Application Support and Software Development to deliver on objectives. As a systems expert you will sometimes be a point of escalation for colleagues and will help with problem diagnostics.

Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop our Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), software and configuration, to implement technical solutions to business requirements
  • Carefully deploy changes to software and infrastructure according to procedure, providing release notes and support for affected user groups and managers
  • Maintain the availability, performance, cost-efficiency and reliability of your assigned IT systems
  • Analyse business and technical requirements then propose solutions
  • Create and estimate work items, write the specification for changes required such as new infrastructure or feature requests for our software systems
  • Build secure systems and actively defend the security of existing systems by patching, remediating security vulnerabilities and operating defences and procedures to maintain and protect systems and data from unauthorised access and cyber-security threats
  • Diagnose bugs, create work items for developers where required and help to resolve complex problems
  • Contribute as a team to build larger deliverables, complete change programmes, and deliver on team objectives, on time
  • Ensure effective handover to operations teams and successful product acceptance by documenting how to use and operate the systems you develop, writing release notes for deployments

OTHER DUTIES

  • You will be a point of escalation and a source of expert knowledge for colleagues, helping resolve complex issues while imparting knowledge
  • Assist with the evaluation and procurement of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions
  • Contribute to overall systems architecture and design, to implement principles such as limiting complexity and automation
  • For some projects you may be involved in discussing business and technical requirements with stakeholders, using your understanding of business processes and our products, to agree and capture the requirements then to collaborate with our software development teams to design the solution in detail
  • This role is part of the engineering team on-call rota, you will provide assistance outside of core working hours when occasionally required; as well as deploying routine system changes out of hours where necessary
  • Travel to other company sites may be required at times for meetings, certain projects or to implement or support large or complex changes
