Leading as the Club Director at the Mar Vista Gardens Club (MVG), you’ll manage a team of full-time and part-time staff, while overseeing volunteer and community partner relationships, to deliver engaging after school programming for youth ages 6-18 years old. Located at the heart of the Mar Vista Community, this club operates in partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angels, HACLA. This self-directed role must lead with a trauma informed approach, rooted in community health and well-being. Along with overseeing daily operations, the Club Director will guide club specific strategies to align with organizational goals and priorities. This includes growing enrollment/average daily attendance, connecting with community members and families, while creating an inclusive environment that serves all ages. Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica seeks a leader skilled at managing daily operations, programming/staff schedules, influencing a positive work culture rooted in learning and development; with an affinity for customer service that builds and maintains community partnerships. Reporting to the Director of Operation-Teens & Workforce Readiness, this position works closely with other Club Directors and multiple teams in the organization. Essential Functions of the Position Leadership-Lead with intention and empathy: Serve as the primary leader of Mar Vista Gardens, who will lead the implementation of programming and operations at the site level. This position ensures a fun and safe Club environment, while establishing staff performance objectives, supervise and evaluate each program instructor or program partner assigned to support programming. This position will also manage staff learning & development, performance evaluations, and have strong coaching skills that will foster future leaders of our organization. This position has a standard to model best practices (with emphasis on physical/emotional safety) as the supervisor of multiple staff. Build Community and Connection: Adopt and maintain relationships with LAUSD staff and community partners. Other relationships include working with program partners, hosting corporate volunteers, and identifying local resources applicable to the population you serve. Lastly, we must be able to develop and cultivate creative, inspiring, and meaningful partnerships for youth programming engagement, while actively participating in community groups. Curriculum and Content Development: Responsible for the execution of daily programming, this leader will collaborate with the Director of Operations and peer Club Director to strategize and align program content at MVG. A willingness and ability to design programming, rooted in evidence-based practice, and voice of the youth is required. You will be responsible for implementing and enhancing BGCA programs focused on character development, leadership, healthy lifestyles, art, STEM, and opportunities to expose youth to workforce and career experiences. Safety & Operations: You will oversee and guide the MVG safety requirements to align with organizational goals for environmental, physical, and emotional safety. This ranges from ensuring facilities and maintenance needs are met and up to standard. Including organizing safety drills, and hosting team meetings to educate staff on BGCA standards and practices. As a strong people leader, this role serves as the face of the Club and the point of contact for Club escalations, feedback, and oversight of Club incidents. Strategic Thinking and Scaling: You will be responsible for adapting content so that it is engaging, scalable, and sustainable, ensuring relevance across diverse audiences and maximizing the impact of our programs. Inform youth transitions from 5th grade to middle school, and middle school to high school. Continuous Improvement: Embrace a mindset of continuous improvement while making data-informed decisions, while always looking for ways to enhance the effectiveness of our programs. You will be encouraged to make difficult decisions that align with the business need, even when faced with ambiguity. Oversee proper record keeping and reporting to included but not limited to grant deliverables, program evaluations, activities, events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements, problems/issues. Must be a data-informed leader. Requirements Experiences You’ll Bring Demonstrated experience developing curriculum and programming for youth for all ages served. The ability to illustrate skills in positive youth development, youth leadership, civic engagement, education, and instructional design. Experiences with outreach, community engagement, and enrollment into youth programs. The ability to connect with parents and community members. Public speaking skills, and ability to speak about youth development and programs. Strong organizational and project management skills to include managing deadlines, documenting practices, facilitating team meetings, and building a high performing team. Work experience supporting or running after school programs, camps, sports programs for youth, outdoor experiences or excursions. Must have experience supervising a diversity of direct service teams, staff, or volunteers. This includes recruitment and onboarding of staff, coaching, performance management, and building high-performing teams. Strong writing and presentation skills with the ability to communicate your ideas clearly and for diverse audiences. Experience with digital platforms: Teams, Zoom, Excel, PowerPoint, using outlook for daily communications, and case management or databases are required. Budget management and experience supporting program needs and inventory with strong fiscal accountability. Qualifications for the Ideal Candidate B.A. or Masters in education, human services, public health, social work, sociology, youth development, community development/organizing, nonprofit management, or related field. Broad knowledge base and understanding of Los Angeles Unified School District, the Culver City community, youth serving nonprofits and programs dedicated to teens and workforce readiness for young adults. Training and understanding of trauma-informed practices, SEL curriculum, and motivational interviewing. Comprehensive knowledge of program planning, administrative operations, including reporting and collecting data, the use of case management tools, and strong grant management. Exposure to equity, diversity, inclusion, and access training or development opportunities. Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, project management, including the ability to effectively meet deadlines in a cross-functional, team-based environment. 3-5 years of supervisory experience. Bilingual or multilingual required.
