Job Details Job Location: Anchorage - ANCHORAGE, AK 99508 JOB TITLE: CMA for Anticoagulation Clinic DEPARTMENT: Coumadin Clinic SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This is a non-exempt position that under the direction of the Cardiologist and/or NP, the Certified Medical Assistant, assists the specialty provider in the delivery of patient care in Anticoagulation Clinic. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Basic understanding of coagulation, antithrombotic therapy and thrombogenesis. Basic understanding of Warfarin and other anticoagulants used in the outpatient setting. Performs patient interview and assess patient’s needs regarding upcoming visits and/or procedures and any current concerns with anticoagulant medications. Assessment skills to identify the signs and symptoms of emergent side effects of treatment, and when to refer to the pharmacist or primary cardiologist. Provide phone calls to patients to communicate medication dosages and next labs tests for homebound and nursing home patients on our remote monitoring service (Acelis). Compliance with Universal Precautions and hospital as well as clinical guidelines for blood specimen collection. Experience: Preferred: Six months experience with laboratory and blood drawing skills. Minimum: One year of experience in acute care medical-surgical or cardiovascular setting. Certificate/License: CMA Certificate and current BLS certification.
