MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Licensed C.N.A. from the State of Virginia or Direct Care Aide who has completed the 40 hour Direct Care Aide Training Certification Program, that has met the requirements of the Department of Social Service.
  • Previous experience with the geriatric field is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with Residents, families, co- workers, community officials, state officials, and general public
  • Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly
  • Must meet all State Health Requirements
  • Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work
  • Must provide proof of authorization to work in the United States
  • Requires good attendance in order to provide quality care for our Residents
  • Must be of good character
  • Be physically and mentally capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities

PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to perform the following body movements: Walking, bending, stooping, reaching, bending and flexing arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers
  • Lift and transfer up to 50 pounds short distances
  • Climb stairs and turn head and torso
  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
    Requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination

Responsibilities

PURPOSE

To provide and assist Residents with daily ADL’s as identified in Resident’s Individual Service Plan under the supervision of Designated Charge Person, RCC and Administration. Assist in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for the Residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Personal Care and Nursing

  • Assist Residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, (hair care, oral care, and nail care), toileting, changing of bed linens as needed, positioning, transfers, mobility, and incontinence care
  • Walking residents
  • Performing range of motion exercises
  • Perform nail care on Residents except those who are diabetic and on Coumadin or anticoagulant therapy
  • Monitoring Residents
  • Feeding Residents
  • Documentation of restraint usage and restraint application
  • Keep proper records of care
  • Immediately report observations, incidents, and changes in Resident’s condition to Designated Charge Person
  • Vital signs monitoring
  • Housekeeping (mopping up spills and cleaning as needed)
  • Serving trays at meal times if needed
  • Accompanying Resident to and from medical appointments as needed
  • Filling up water/ice pitchers every shift and as needed
