Responsibilities
  • Monitor and respond to the student’s ongoing health needs throughout the school day, following medical care plans.
  • Administer basic first aid and support in medical emergencies in coordination with the school nurse.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, including toileting, feeding, mobility assistance, and hygiene.
  • Support the student in accessing and participating in classroom activities and school routines.
  • Accompany and supervise the student during transitions, recess, field trips, and other school activities.
  • Document and report any health-related incidents, observations, or changes in the student’s condition to appropriate staff and guardians.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student health and personal information in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  • Collaborate with teachers, aides, therapists, and the school nurse to support the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan.
  • Use appropriate lifting, positioning, and safety techniques to protect the student and self from injury.
