The Davis Community requires that all current and new employees, including contract staff, receive an annual influenza vaccination and TB skin test unless a reasonable or disability accommodation is granted. The primary purpose of the CNA/Med Aide is to assist in the administration of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with the established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of this facility, and the requirements of this state. MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES: 1. Accurately and safely prepare, administer and document the administration of medications for residents as prescribed by the physician, utilizing the 6 rights of medication administration. 2. Document all entries in the electronic MAR following DHC procedures and established nursing standards. Follow DHC procedures for documentation of medications held or refused by resident. 3. Promptly notify nurse of med error or near misses. 4. Ensure medications are properly labeled/dated following labeling practices of DHC and Omnicare Pharmacy. 5. Knowledge of common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms relative to the administration of medications as used by DHC, Pharmacists, and Physicians. 6. Attend and participate in continuing education programs/workshops related to medication administration. 7. During periods of nursing service need, will follow the directive to perform CNA duties. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: · Successfully demonstrate competency validation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse employed by DHC. · Works in a well lighted, temperature controlled office area · Continual exposure to blood, body fluids and infectious disease. · Exposure to some noise and stress · Ability to effectively communicate with people · Ability to perform mathematical functions · Read, write and speak English · Physical exertion required no more than 60% of the time. Physical exertion also is described as standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending. · Intermittent lifting and carrying of objects weighing between 30-40 pounds and pushing of objects weighing at least 100 pounds. · Sufficiently mobile to push wheelchairs, carts and equipment. · Good communication skills both verbal and written with ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. · Posses good organizational ability and strong interpersonal skills Requirements Education: High School diploma or GED preferred. Must take the NC BON approved Med Aide certification course and pass written examination. Licensure/ Certification: Must maintain listing on NA1 (CNA) registry and Certified Medication Aide registry in accordance with the laws of North Carolina. Experience: Preferred but not required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
