Wage: - $35.00 to $42.26 per hour, based on experience.
- Overtime/Attendance Bonus, $3.00 per overtime hour.
- $1.75 per hour afternoon shift premium.
Type: - Full-time, permanent, in-person, overtime available.
Shifts: - Rotation (6 weeks of days and 2 weeks of afternoons).
- Day Shift = 8 hours per day, 8:00AM-4:30PM, Monday to Friday.
- Afternoon Shift = 10 hours per day, 4:15PM-2:15AM, Mon to Thurs.
- Possibility of straight afternoon shift if desired.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
- Have a strong understanding of the English language. Clear communication is critical.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience using large vertical boring mills (turning), as well as an equal amount of experience with live tooling (milling or mill-turn machines), to machine very large workpieces (8’ diameter and up).
- Must be a certified machinist or have an equivalent combination of schooling and/or hands on experience.
- Past experience machining large workpieces (castings, weldments, and solid blocks) is a requirement.
- Experience with Fagor and/or Heidenhain controllers is an asset.
- Strong problem solving skills and a desire for continuous learning is essential.
- Quality and attention to detail is of utmost importance.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that is constructive and that promotes positive relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.

Job Duties: Machinists at Barrie Welding & Machine are relied upon heavily to be versatile and able to perform their duties with limited supervision. We are a custom jobbing shop with a high mix, low volume type workload. This is not a “machine operator” or mass production type role. - Read and interpret job instructions, drawings, schematics, and analyze sample parts to determine individual project requirements.
- Perform workpiece set-ups, clamping and work holding, select appropriate tooling, and determine appropriate order of operations, feed rates, depth of cut, etc.
- Responsible for performing your own CNC programming for standard part geometries and features using the machine control. Programs for more complex geometries will be a cooperative effort between yourself and a designated programmer who uses Mastercam.
- Rigging and hoisting large and heavy loads, from 30 to 100 tons. Includes the use of overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Able to perform and record quality control checks on your own work through the use of various precision measurement tools.
- Use of manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic hand tools.
- Deburring and clean-up of finished components while the machine is running on other items.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment according to maintenance plans and established procedures.
- Work with and pass on experience and knowledge to apprentices.
- Continue to expand your knowledge base and identify and assist with continuous improvement opportunities.
