Position: CNC Laser Operator Location: Newport News, VA 23602 Duration: Full-time, Contract to Hire Shift: 1st and 3rd Shift available (depending on the team's needs) Pay Rate: Up to $40.00/hr. (Depending on direct relatable experience) Job Description: The CNC Laser Operator is a skilled fabrication professional responsible for independently setting up and operating fiber optic CNC laser cutting machines to produce high-precision metal components. This role requires expertise in interpreting complex technical drawings, understanding material properties, and selecting optimal cutting strategies for fiber optic laser applications to maximize efficiency and part quality. The operator aligns and secures raw materials, monitors machine performance, and performs routine maintenance, while proactively identifying and resolving issues such as material inconsistencies, tool wear, or process deviations. While occasional work on CO? laser machines may be required, the primary focus is on fiber optic laser operation. Success in this role demands strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining consistent accuracy, throughput, and safety standards. \n Shift Information: Training: Conducted on first shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM) Regular Shift: Third shift (12:00 AM – 8:30 AM) Candidates must be flexible for both shifts. Key Responsibilities: Set up and calibrate fiber optic laser machines, including program retrieval, material setup, and selection of appropriate cutting parameters, gas, and nozzles Load, align, and secure raw materials for accurate, efficient production Perform routine machine maintenance, including lens and nozzle inspection, cleaning, and adjustments, and proactively troubleshoot process issues or inconsistencies Inspect finished parts using precision measurement tools to ensure adherence to blueprints and quality standards Maintain production records, including material usage, part counts, and setup notes Separate finished parts from scrap and manage efficient workflow to maximize throughput Apply knowledge of fiber optic laser capabilities to optimize cutting strategies, improve efficiency, and maintain consistent part quality Work independently while coordinating with supervisors or engineering as needed to meet production goals and deadlines Required Skills and Experience: Minimum 5 Years Experience operating fiber optic CNC laser Blueprint and technical drawing interpretation Material knowledge (i.e. steel, aluminum, stainless) Experience performing routine maintenance and inspections on CNC laser equipment Interpreting measurement tools (calipers, tape measure) Able to lift 50 lbs., stand for long periods, walk, bend, twist and squatting Able to work in hot and cold environments Ability to work independently including decision making with minimum supervision Preferred Qualifications: Sheet metal knowledge Experience operating CO laser machines Experience with multiple material types, including specialty alloys Familiarity of editing G-Codes Experience with process improvement initiatives Equipment Operated: Amada ENSIS EN3015AJZ-9kW Mazak Laser Champion 510 Amada EML 2515 Aje \n
