QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Strong experience with CNC programming (G-code/M-code) and machine setup for CNC lathes.
  • In-depth knowledge of different CNC lathe types and various machine controls (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, etc.).
  • Expertise in tooling selection, tool path optimization, and material-specific cutting techniques.
  • Understanding of machining tolerances, blueprint reading, and GD&T principles.
  • Ability to diagnose machine and tooling issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Leadership skills to effectively manage, train, and support a team of CNC operators.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on efficiency and quality improvement.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in CNC lathe operations, programming, and supervision
  • Technical certification and / or associate degree in machining, engineering, manufacturing, or related field required. Extensive hands-on experience providing leadership support for a machining operation in a manufacturing environment may be considered in lieu of a degree or certifications. A bachelor’s degree would be an added plus.

  • CNC Programming & Setup:
  • Review drawings and specifications and plan the production process, including where and how to cut the work piece, the correct tools and materials for the job and the sequence of steps to follow in production of the product.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs to optimize machining operations and reduce cycle times. Ensure accurate setup of machines and tooling.
  • Machine Operations & Maintenance: Supervise and oversee the operation of different CNC lathes, ensuring proper functionality of various machine controls. Coordinate routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Tooling & Cutting Strategies: Select, evaluate, and optimize cutting tools and tool holders for different materials and applications to improve productivity and extend tool life.
  • Process Optimization: Implement efficiency improvements to increase throughput and minimize waste. Ensure adherence to best practices in machining techniques.
  • Quality Control: Monitor machining operations to maintain high standards of precision and accuracy. Work with quality assurance teams to reduce defects and scrap rates.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure operators follow safety protocols and company policies. Conduct training sessions to reinforce safety practices and operational guidelines.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Train, mentor, and provide guidance to CNC operators. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork.
  • Production Planning & Coordination: Work closely with engineers and production planners to prioritize jobs and meet deadlines while maximizing machine utilization.
