Description
The CNC Machinist performs a variety of machine operations utilizing a Computer Numerical Control Mill or Lathe to manufacture parts to drawing specifications. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Interprets setup sheets, drawings, and work orders to determine work to be done and dimensions of in-process and finished parts Operates CNC machine to perform a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close tolerances; selects and installs appropriate cutting tools in machine spindle or magazine; loads programs in machine control or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database; changes cutting tools and location of part during machining process as specified in setup instructions Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools Performs a variety of inspection and gauging operations to ensure conformity to drawing tolerances and quality standards; notifies supervisor or lead of discrepancies Utilizes override control to correct conditions that are out of tolerance or operating unusually Cleans machine, tooling, and parts; empties chip container Performs basic machine maintenance EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years previous machinist experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to apply basic shop math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to work with close tolerances. To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to operate the equipment used in the department, including but not limited to measuring devices and CNC machines. Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner and to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers and supervisor. Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy. Exhibits dependability, including following instructions; responding to supervisor’s direction; and taking responsibility for own actions. Ability to take initiative, including asking for and offering help when needed; performs work independently without being prompted Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and work within deadlines.
