CNC Machinist / CNC Setup Technician Location: Baltimore, MD Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Starting Pay: From $28.00/hour (higher compensation available based on experience) Position Overview We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join a growing manufacturing team. This role is responsible for machine setup, operation, programming support, quality inspection, and process improvement in a precision machining environment. Candidates should be comfortable working independently while maintaining production schedules and quality standards. \n Primary Responsibilities Set up and operate multi-axis CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines. Read and interpret blueprints, machining drawings, work orders, and manufacturing specifications. Produce precision-machined components while maintaining required tolerances. Inspect completed parts using standard measuring and inspection equipment. Edit existing CNC programs and create new programs when needed. Develop and improve fixturing and setup methods to support efficient production. Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and setup issues to minimize downtime. Monitor production schedules and complete assigned work with minimal supervision. Perform routine machine maintenance and preventative upkeep. Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment. Collaborate with production leadership on tooling, fixtures, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications Experience performing complete CNC machine setups in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints. Strong knowledge of machining practices, tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and setup procedures. Experience working with aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel materials. Ability to verify part quality using precision inspection equipment. Proven ability to work independently and solve machining-related issues. Preferred Experience 3+ years of CNC programming and program editing experience. 4–5 years of fixture design, setup development, or production process improvement experience. 3+ years of experience using SolidWorks CAM Professional. Experience supporting both prototype and production machining operations.
