• A CNC Programmer in woodworking is responsible for creating, editing, and optimizing CNC programs for woodworking machinery, ensuring precise and efficient production of wood components.
• This role requires a blend of technical skills, including CAD/CAM software proficiency, CNC machine operation, and a strong understanding of woodworking principles and materials.
• Key Responsibilities:
• Program Creation and Optimization:Develop and refine CNC programs for various woodworking machines (e.g., routers, machining centers) using CAD/CAM software like WoodWOP, Alphacam, or Cabinet Vision.
• Technical Drawing Interpretation:Accurately interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD/CAM files to translate design specifications into machine instructions.
• Machine Setup and Operation:Set up and operate CNC machinery, selecting appropriate tools, feeds, and speeds based on material type and job requirements.
• Quality Control:Monitor the machining process, ensuring parts meet quality standards and making adjustments as needed.
• Troubleshooting:Identify and resolve issues with CNC programs, tooling, or machine performance.
• Material Handling:Load and unload materials, ensuring proper handling and storage to prevent damage.
• Machine Maintenance:Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on CNC machinery, and collaborate with maintenance personnel for more complex issues.
• Collaboration:Work with designers, production staff, and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and efficient production.
• Documentation:Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, production data, and any non-conformance issues.
• Safety Compliance:Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Essential Skills and Knowledge:
• CAD/CAM Software Proficiency:Expertise in relevant CAD/CAM software (e.g., WoodWOP, Alphacam, Cabinet Vision).
• CNC Programming:Strong understanding of CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code) and their application in woodworking.
• Woodworking Knowledge:Comprehensive knowledge of wood properties, joinery techniques, and common woodworking processes.
• Technical Drawing Interpretation:Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM files.
• Machine Operation:Experience setting up and operating CNC woodworking machinery.
• Problem-Solving:Ability to identify and resolve issues related to CNC programming, machine operation, and production processes.
• Attention to Detail:Meticulous attention to detail to ensure precision and accuracy in machining operations.
• Communication Skills:Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and provide clear instructions.
• Safety Awareness:Commitment to upholding safety standards and practices in a woodworking environment.
• Experience:
• Typically requires 2+ years of experience in CNC programming and woodworking operations.
• Experience with specific CNC machines and software used in the company is often required.
• Experience with 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines is often desirable.
