Job Summary: The CNC Mastercam Programmer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs using Mastercam software to produce high-quality parts according to engineering specifications. This role involves interpreting complex blueprints, selecting appropriate tooling and machining strategies, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to ensure efficient and accurate manufacturing processes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree or vocational/technical school degree in Machining Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Mastercam certification (e.g., 2D Mill, 3D Mill, Lathe, Multiaxis) is highly desirable.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of [e.g., 3-5] years of experience in CNC programming, with significant experience using Mastercam software.
  • Proven experience with machine setup and operation.
  • Experience with multi-axis machining (3-axis, 4-axis, 5-axis) is a strong plus.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expert proficiency in Mastercam CAD/CAM software.
  • Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Solid knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools, materials (metals, plastics, composites), and feeds/speeds.
  • Experience with other CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with various CNC machine controls (e.g., Fanuc, Haas, Mazak).
  • Knowledge of precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM).
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).

Responsibilities
  • Program Development:
  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for various machining operations (milling, multi-axis, etc.) using Mastercam software.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to determine machining requirements to successfully achieve customer required dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Develop efficient toolpaths, considering factors such as tool selection, cutting speeds, feed rates, spindle speeds, and machining sequences.
  • Write and edit G-code and M-code programs as needed for fine-tuning and debugging.
  • Process Optimization:
  • Continuously analyze and refine existing CNC programs and machining processes to improve efficiency, reduce cycle times, and maximize machine utilization.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction through optimized tooling, material usage, and machining strategies.
  • Conduct test runs and inspect machined parts to ensure compliance with quality standards and design specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve programming and machining issues, collaborating with machinists and engineers to minimize downtime.
  • Tooling and Fixturing:
  • Select and specify appropriate cutting tools, holders, and work holding devices (e.g., vises, fixtures, clamps) for each job.
  • Design custom fixtures in CAD/CAM software when necessary to ensure proper part alignment and stability during machining.
  • Assist in the setup and calibration of CNC machines.
  • Collaboration and Documentation:
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, machinists, quality control, and other production personnel to ensure seamless execution of manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to CNC operators.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including setup sheets, tool lists, program files, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on manufacturability.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new machining technologies, and advancements in Mastercam software.
  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance manufacturing capabilities and product quality.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and quality.
