KEY OBJECTIVES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Be the technical leader on the topic of CNC programming – router tables and channel benders – for both the ACM and Fabrication departments.
  • Program router tables and channel benders to achieve schedule, maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and maintain quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering department to develop and maintain a robust process for quick, efficient, and error-free workflow from Engineering to Manufacturing.
  • Develop a cross-training program, including providing coaching and mentoring, to ensure router and channel bender Operators are properly trained and that there are backup programmers available.
  • Support the Fabrication and ACM department leaders with developing and managing the router table and channel bender schedule to achieve customer commitments.
  • Maximize equipment up-time across four router tables and two-channel benders.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience including router tables and channel benders required.
  • College diploma in a related technical field – Engineering Technologist or Technician.
  • Working knowledge with Flexi-Design, V-Carve, and En-Route programs required.
  • Experience with AXYZ router tables and SDS Channel Bender equipment preferred.
  • Experience with Epicor ERP system would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required, SolidWorks would be an asset.
  • Experience working with DXF files.
  • Ability to read blueprint/engineering drawings using US customary measurement system.
  • Knowledge of MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Corel Draw is an asset.
  • Team oriented with an ability to work with others in a multi-cultural environment.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize various programs including Flexi-Design, VCarve, and EnRoute to create, set and load files to AXYZ Router Tables, SDS Channel Benders, and Router Tables

  • Review and prioritize programming requirements as per production schedule ensuring allowance for adequate lead times based upon department demands.
  • Prepare priority list and liaison with afternoon shift personnel to ensure schedule attainment.
  • Monitor materials requirements for production, maintain inventory levels for router table and channel bender consumables.
  • Act as internal liaison between departments to coordinate the flow of programming requirements.
  • Uses appropriate nesting techniques to maximize material usage and minimize scrap output.
  • Operate equipment as required to support schedule attainment.
  • Manage file directory, implementing standardized naming convention and eliminating duplicates.
  • Perform quality checks on cut products for required specifications and provide guidance to operators regarding programming concerns.
  • Remove and replace cutting tool when worn or damaged or when new cutting tool is required.
  • Work with Maintenance to develop an equipment maintenance program, and work with Maintenance and Machine Operators to maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Develop SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for Machine Operators that deliver a high degree of safety, quality, standardization, and the sharing of best practices.
  • Assist in other areas of production as assigned.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly, developing and maintaining 5S.
  • Review the work orders/drawings and assigned work with Machine Operators.
  • Communicate with other departments as required with regard to materials/WIP components to complete specific jobs.
  • Perform final inspection on finished product prior to leaving the department as required including completion of any checklists and photos where applicable.
  • Ensure the raw material usage has been reported in the job traveller.
  • Coordinate communication of ECNs (engineering change notices) to ensure operators have current information.
  • Review quality deficiencies to determine root cause and develop permanent countermeasures.
  • Perform product and process inspections throughout the production process to ensure quality.
