Unit Summary The Engineering Department at Hamilton Health Sciences is an integral part of the support services, providing facilities maintenance services to all buildings, wards and departments at Chedoke, General, Henderson, JCC and McMaster Medical Centre sites. The Engineering staff is comprised of numerous and varied trades, including Stationary Engineers in the power plant, Electricians, Plumbers, Millwrights, Carpenters, Painters, etc. all contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the facilities. The department's goals can best be summarized as "SERVICE EXCELLENCE". Position Summary Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the Co-generation/Building Operator is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, shutdown and start up, chemical treatment, operational checks and testing of all Power Generation, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, instrumentation, plumbing, mechanical, fire alarm, computer and associated equipment, controls and systems in accordance with corporate, unit and departmental goals and objectives, policies and standards. While the Operator is responsible for all functions in accordance with duties defined in the job description for the Co-generation/Building Operator, the primary focus will be preventive and demand maintenance of all of the Co-generation Plants. May be assigned to work at any HHS site. Schedule Work Hours Rotating shifts - days/nights 1. Current Province of Ontario Stationary Engineer Third Class Certificate of Qualification 2. Minimum of five years experience as a qualified Tradesperson 3. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in the operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, repair and testing of buildings with computerized building control systems for all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, instrumentation, plumbing, mechanical, fire alarm, computer and associated equipment, controls and systems 4. Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English 5. Demonstrated ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade 6. Must be willing to provide own hand tools of the trade 7. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in areas that are cold, hot, dusty, dirty, noisy, amongst machinery, at elevated levels and have cramped quarters 8. Ability to crawl, lifts heavy items, climb and work from ladders and scaffolding 9. Past experience as a Cogeneration Plant Operator preferred
Responsibilities
