At end of 2023 IFU managed in total 161 investments across 100 developing countries.
To strengthen leadership capacity and to cater for a growing organisation, we are looking for a senior investment professional who is motivated and passionate about working with commercial and sustainable investments across Africa, LATAM and Asia. The VP/SVP will Co-Head the Sustainable Food Systems sector investment team and can be based in either Copenhagen, Lagos, Johannesburg or New Delhi. Note, IFU Copenhagen is moving to Nordhavnen station next year.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated good results and high level of capabilities regarding:

  • Proven end to end direct equity investment experience at appropriate level for the role (deal sourcing, transaction and exit), additionally experience with direct debt and funds investment is an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of political, economic and developing market context, ideally experience from investing across Africa.
  • Strong direct equity investment background, ideally proven track record and network within related sector investment experience and network, Agriculture investment experience and investment experience from developing countries an advantage
  • Experience managing all key aspects of the investment process, including financial analysis and structuring, development, and climate impact, environmental, social and governance, legal, scoping and carrying through due diligence, negotiating agreements.
  • Strong background of portfolio management through active ownership and board work
  • Experienced leader, including experience leading and coaching senior team members, with ability to share vision, develop teams and create growth.
  • Clear communicator
  • Have a growth mindset on own leadership development

Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute IFU´s strategy as agreed with CIO and Co-head with a focus on IFU’s investments in Sustainable Food Systems sector (equity, debt and funds), hereunder with a joint responsibility for achieving the sectors’ targets regarding new investments and impact and value creation.
  • Lead sourcing efforts to build pipeline to deliver on investments targets within Sustainable Food Systems including building and maintaining a strong network of relevant lead providers and supporting and guiding IPs in their sourcing activities.
  • As Co-head lead investments within equity and debt as agreed with CIO and fellow Co-head.
  • Utilise IFU’s portfolio of instruments and tools to create impact and value during the investment process.
  • Be leading VP/SVP for portfolio companies and conduct active ownership to drive portfolio companies’ performance on financial and impact targets.
  • Track and review progress on targets (pipeline, investments contracted, value and impact creation) together with Co-head and ensuring relevant data is up to date.
  • Deliver exits according to exit plans agreed with CIO and Co-head.
