QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field
  • Basic understanding of chemical kinetics and reaction engineering
  • Experience with laboratory experimental workflows
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks preferred
  • Background in process analytical technology (PAT) preferred
  • Understanding of flow chemistry and continuous processing preferred
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a motivated co-op student to join our Chemical Process Research & Development team for a 6-month experimental project focused on testing and developing automated kinetics and experimental workflows based on the open-source kinetics platform. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of chemical engineering, data science, and laboratory automation.
Our Co-op program includes a 6-month placement at our Devens, MA location, from July to December 2025.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Test and validate the open-source platform using existing chemical reaction datasets
  • Identify limitations and areas for improvement in the current implementation
  • Document performance metrics and validation results
  • Design and implement experimental workflows that connect automated laboratory equipment
  • Develop protocols for automated data collection, processing, and analysis
  • Create standardized workflows for common reaction types and kinetic studies
  • Implement connections between online analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, IR, etc.)
  • Develop methods for real-time data acquisition and processing
  • Test and validate the integrated system with model reactions
  • Create comprehensive documentation for all developed workflows and protocols
  • Prepare regular progress reports and final project summary
  • Contribute to potential publication of results
