Are you looking for an opportunity to gain exposure to fixed income portfolio management and quantitative trading?
AIMCo’s Fixed Income group manages several different short-, mid-, and long-term portfolios for our clients and provides active management of money market and fixed income investments. The Co-op, Fixed Income will assist the department in its objective to add value relative to benchmarks through interest rate forecasting, term structure weighting, sector weighting and security selection.
Note: This is a 4-month, full-time term starting in January 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the Fixed Income team’s development of quantitative statistical models, back-testing, curve building, or other quantitative analysis.
  • Determining which factor investing models can be applied to bond or credit portfolio management.
  • Collaborating with the Fixed Income team to determine what tools can be used to improve fixed income processes.
  • Improving and creation of new management reports used for more informed investment decision making.
  • Maintaining and updating Fixed Income databases and SharePoint site.
  • Working with the reporting group on existing reports or create new reports for Fixed Income team.
  • Assisting in the quarterly client reporting process.
  • Supporting and working on documentation of existing high-level data and process flows.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies in a quantitative discipline including finance, economics, engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or related field combined with a demonstrated passion for investments.
  • Must be part of a work experience program with a post-secondary institution (Ex: Co-op).
  • Understanding of financial markets, particularly the fixed income market. Knowledge of financial instruments such as bonds, derivatives, and money market instruments is a plus.
  • An interest in Fixed Income quantitative trading and analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming using large data sets.
  • Advanced proficiency level with Microsoft Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Advanced programming using Python, VBA, SQL, and Microsoft Power BI is an asset.
  • Prior experience with conducting financial research, preferably using Bloomberg or Capital IQ is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail with strong research, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while working independently and collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated and proactive. The ideal candidate should be eager to learn, able to take initiative, and willing to go the extra mile to deliver results.
  • CFA Level I (or working towards it)

Success:
During your time with the Fixed Income team, you will have developed an understanding of the variety of fixed income products AIMCo holds while working collaboratively and effectively with the team to champion continuous improvement and support the team on identifying opportunities that enhance data management and investment analysis processes.
