Description Job Summary: The Coating Engineering Technician supports both engineering and production tasking in a thin-film coating operation for precision optics. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a dedication to quality and reliability, along with a strong willingness to learn. Responsibilities will expand based on capabilities and team needs. Job Responsibilities: • Prepare substrates and maintain coating quality through precision cleaning and surface preparation. • Operate vacuum coating chambers to produce ion-beam-sputtered optical thin-film coatings. • Measure and analyze coating performance using a spectrophotometer and other precision instruments. • Inspect optical components and coatings for defects, ensuring compliance with specifications. • Conduct microscope-based inspections to identify fine defects -- strong visual acuity is required. • Maintain accurate process records including machine operations, parameters, and observations. • Follow and refine standard operating procedures to ensure process consistency and workplace safety. • Perform routine maintenance on coating equipment, including disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly. • Assist with inventory management and facility upkeep to support continuous production. • Develop expertise in production control and make coating performance adjustments as needed. Knowledge, Skill and Experience: Successful candidates must have at least one year of experience supporting precision manufacturing, supplemented by either college-level coursework in science or engineering, or by direct experience in an engineering support role. This is a hands-on position that requires practical problem-solving, process control, and technical troubleshooting skills.
